1. The door is heavy or will not stay up
Cause: tired or broken torsion springs. Springs lose tension with every cycle, so busy doors wear them out faster.
Fix: re-tensioning or replacing the springs. Never try this yourself because the springs hold a lot of stored energy.
2. The door jams or runs skew
Cause: bent guides, dirt and grit in the channels, or a curtain that has shifted to one side.
Fix: clean and realign the guides, straighten or replace damaged sections, and re-centre the curtain.
3. Bent or dented slats
Cause: forklifts, vehicles and attempted break-ins.
Fix: damaged slats can usually be cut out and replaced individually, so you do not need a new curtain.
4. The motor hums but the door does not move
Cause: a failed capacitor, a burnt motor, or a door that is too heavy because the springs or guides are already worn.
Fix: test the motor and the door balance together. Replacing a motor without fixing the underlying drag just burns out the new one.
5. The door stopped working after load-shedding
Cause: power surges damaging control boards and remotes, or no way to open the door during an outage.
Fix: replace the damaged electronics, add surge protection and fit a battery backup so the door keeps working when the power is off.
6. Noisy operation
Cause: dry guides, worn bearings or loose brackets.
Fix: a service with cleaning, lubrication and tightening often solves it. Ignoring the noise usually leads to bigger damage later.
7. The lock will not engage
Cause: a bent bottom rail or a door that no longer closes fully.
Fix: straighten or replace the bottom rail, adjust the door so it seats properly and upgrade the locks if needed.

- Never force a door that is sticking; stop and call for a check.
